Your Tampa Moving Day Checklist
Moving is definitely exciting! You are about to embark on an adventure to make a completely new space your home! But moving is also definitely stressful. In fact, some health experts put moving right up there with death and divorce as one of the top stressors in life!
Luckily, there are some things you can do to lower the stress quotient for your upcoming move. At Mack’s Movers, We specifically recommend starting your move planning early and taking the help of our handy moving day checklist!
Get a Good Night’s Sleep
We spend all day, every day helping people transition from an old space to their new space. There is no denying that the thought that you are moving in the morning can be enough to keep you awake all night!
But this won’t serve you well when the sun starts to come up and moving day has finally arrived. So do everything you can to get a good night’s sleep the night before your big move. Some of our favorite sleep enhancers include taking a warm bubble bath (a great ease for your tired muscles!) and drinking a warm cup of your favorite herbal tea before bed.
Rise and Shine Early
It is true that once you do fall asleep the night before your move, you probably will feel like you can sleep forever! But it is a mistake to let yourself sleep in on moving day because there is always more to do than you thought there would be the night before!
A better strategy is to try to get to bed early and then set your alarm for at least a half-hour to an hour before you know you need to be up and moving about. This way, if your movers arrive early, you will be ready!
Keep Aside Your Essentials in a Day Pack
We see this all too frequently on the other side of a long day of moving – our exhausted clients just want to fall into bed, but everything they need, from soap to pajamas, is in a box somewhere!
Now, one of our biggest recommendations, especially for our first-time moving clients, is to tuck away at least a night or two’s worth of essentials in a day pack and carry that with you separately from everything that is designated to go into your moving truck.
This way, if you arrive at your new space and you are too tuckered out to do any actual unpacking, you can just grab your day pack, shower and change and sack out!
Be the Moving Supervisor
We know there are times when you simply cannot be present for your move, or you have to leave before everything is loaded up and packed. But if at all possible, try to arrange your schedule to be present for your move day in its entirety. This gives you a chance to give your moving crew a full tour of your home and premises and point out areas of special interest or concern.
This is also the best way to make sure your valuables and fragile items are given the special handling they need and deserve and also to make sure that nothing gets overlooked and left behind.
Some common areas that sometimes get overlooked during a big, busy move include out-of-the-way spaces like storage sheds, attic or basement hideaways, garages or in-law cottages. So be sure to do a walkthrough of the whole premises before declaring your move-out complete.
Label Each Box Before It Gets Loaded
Clearly labelling each box may not be so much of an issue if you are travelling light and moving from one small space to another. But boy could we tell you some stories about how poor (or no) move planning on a big job can add a lot of time and expense to your move!
Taking the time to label each box or item can help your movers load and unload strategically. This will also prevent extra stress later as you hunt for things you need while unpacking.
Be Sure You Have Access to Your New Space
Finally, a must-do item on your moving day checklist is to ensure in advance that you will have full access to your new home before your movers arrive.
Getting keys, knowing a security code, figuring out where the freight elevator is located and other logistics can all contribute to the least stressful, most successful move!
